What is autism recovery? Everyone has heard of autism, but not too many people are talking about autism recovery. Well that’s why this site exists…to inform parents that recovery from autism is possible. This site is also for healthcare providers to learn more about autism recovery options available for patients and families struggling in living their lives with an autism diagnosis.
My son was born happy and healthy! Over the course of 15 months things changed for him, where he would get sick easily, high fevers, diarrhea alternating with constipation. Then the BIG changes started to happen, loss of eye contact, unable to babble, loss of words…the dreaded word…Regression. My husband and I started to scramble. Being trained as a nurse practitioner, I didn’t want to believe what I was seeing, but I knew in my heart, my son was now autistic. Over the course of the next few months, it was a struggle and a race to diagnosis. I needed desperately to save my son’s brain!
Being trained in the conventional medical model, I knew nothing of autism recovery. I only knew of the diagnosis and behavioral therapies used to treat the symptoms. It wasn’t until our world was rocked by autism and I looked outside of my very small box, did I realize that recovery is real!
That’s why this site exists to be there for parents just starting out on this journey or for parents who have been on this journey for a long time and are looking for new resources.
